“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

wan-der-lust (n.)

A desire to travel, to understand one’s very existence.

3 1/2 months until I see this view on the way to Paris. There is a lot to do between then & now, but I can’t help but wish it would come a little sooner.

“You’re considered superficial and silly if you are interested in fashion, but I think you can be substantial and still be interested in frivolity.”

-Sophia Coppola

Fact: Life is magical, but sometimes it needs a little help.

I make a conscious effort make my life pretty. Because my emotions feed heavily on my surroundings, the extra effort is well worth it.  So, string some fairy lights around your room, use tea cups instead of mugs, and wear a floral crown in your hair. The fact that they are pretty & make you smile is enough of a reason to do them.

I also like to keep constant change in my life. I redo the collages on my bulletin boards pretty frequently. I have a portfolio of cut outs that I add to all the time & I love to mix the old inspiration with the new. I also have a new iphone wallpaper almost weekly (right now it is Marie Antoinette’s Petit Hameau  (little village) at Versailles, the place I am most looking forward to seeing in France because I am a complete child haha). It’s the details that make the difference.

There is something about the morning that I just love.

“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”

(you can see Twinkle, my unicorn pillow pet, in the backgroud. it’s a little sad how much I love him haha)

So far this summer I have:

♥Sobbed my way through the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy.

♥Completely re-organized my room. I love my little pink bedroom dearly & I will cry many, MANY tears when my parents sell our house later this summer. I suppose I am going to be in Paris this fall & very soon after that back in New York City (FINALLY BACK ♥♥♥), so I really shouldn’t complain. sigh.

♥Listened to the entire book on tape of Ella Enchanted while previously mentioned organizing took place. I read the book & listened to the CDs over and over as a child, so it’s got lovely childhood feelings associated with it…plus, I am 5-years-old and really love fairytales.

♥Re-read The Great Gatsby. One of my absolute favorites.

♥Organized & began to follow a french review schedule (fluent before September? I wish haha).

♥Juice Fasted (see previous posts).

♥Gone to the gym (almost) everyday.

♥Taken some excellent naps.

1. My Kindle Touch: I never go anywhere without my kindle. Because I don’t have to worry about reading for school, I read constantly in the summer. Add a cup of tea or a lounge chair by the pool and you have the makings of a perfect afternoon. The summer is a great time to reread the classics & luckily many of them are free for the kindle! I have a feeling that I am going to work my way though all of Jane Austen’s novels this summer (Emma is my personal favorite).

2. Ray-Ban Aviators: The perfect pair of sunglasses. ‘nuff said.

3. J. Crew Newsstand Tote: I used this bag for class during the school year, but I have found that it is also the perfect size to hold all of my summer essentials (and then some), while not being TOO big (there’s a fine line haha). The leather is beautiful and buttery soft, making it a delight to use. I adore this bag.

4. YSL Parisienne: This is a light, floral scent. It’s not too strong, so it’s not too much for the humid summer days. It’s lovely, girly, & playful without smelling like you just rolled around in cotton candy (which seems to be a problem with perfumes these days).

5. Clinique Chubby Stick (Super Strawberry): This lip balm is moisturizing while also giving my lips the perfect “just ate a popsicle” look that I love for summer (… and every other season…haha). I apply this over benetint for long lasting color.

6. Essie’s Turquoise & Caicos: This polish was a huge trend last summer & I still love it just as much as I did then. I can’t bear to put this on my nails any other time of year. This color is meant for sunshine and days at the beach.

I just finished a juice fast with my momma that lasted 3. . ish days (explanation to come). A few months ago I watched a documentary on Netlix called Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. It follows an overweight man on a 60 day juice fast and health journey. I’m not going to get too into it, but it is amazing to see the changes in his body and mind and I was truly inspired. It’s an eye opener if you haven’t jumped on the healthy lifestyle bandwagon yet & if you have access to Netflix, I definitely recommend that you give it a watch.

After showing the documentary to my mom, we decided to give it a go ourselves. We started on Monday, originally planning to go until Friday morning. Although I had tried to prepare myself for the fast, it was incredibly hard at points. I was never hungry, and the juices were delicious, but I craved eating. a lot. If you plan on doing a juice fast plan to take a few days off from work and buy some good books. You aren’t going to want to be around a lot of people when you do this, especially if they are going to be eating around you (TORTURE).  When I reached the end of the 3rd day I had lost a little too much weight, so on the 4th day I added 2 Chobani greek yogurts to my juicing diet, just to give it a little more substance and to ease my body into digesting food again. Today I stuck to light and frequent snack sized meals (strawberries, snap peas, cut up tomato etc).

As much as I would like to spend my life eating chocolate croissants and drinking iced coffees (with giant dollops of whipped cream on top haha), I feel now more than ever that a healthy diet is irreplaceable. I feel so much more awake and present in life now. It was more than worth it.

Oh, and now that I am done with school for the year & fully settled back at home for the summer expect to see a lot more of me around here.
